The fundamentals are described by the core of the model as the target harm, and commitment and involvement. These fundamentals are the hardest issues to address because they go to the essence of the culture of the organization, and the willingness of all personnel to address safety issues.
At Practical Safety International we believe there can only be one target and that is Zero Harm. As a philosophical target this can be extended beyond safety to include community and environment.
The commitment of management and the involvement of all employees in a sustained effort to achieve this target are the foundation stones of a company culture that has safety as an underlying value. It also means that the management behaviour demonstrates this commitment, and that all personnel at all levels are involved.
Having a clear target and demonstrated commitment at all levels must underpin all steps in the safety process.
