This all-in-one Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) provides guidance in the development of systems to control additions, deletions and changes to Workplace Substances. Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances have differing requirements for risk assessment. For Dangerous Goods the focus is predominantly on the physio - chemical effects whilst for Hazardous Substances the focus is predominantly on health exposures that might occur in the short, medium and long term. Dangerous Goods can be hazardous substances and Hazardous Substances can also be dangerous goods. It is very important to identify Plant associated with the use of both Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances and treat in accordance with plant safety and dangerous goods legislation.  This SOP also provides guidance in developing a simple system to enable request and purchase of substances.
